We're loving the crossover of guitar-based pop rock with electronic in Tom Shawcroft's new single "Darling". The Nottingham-based artist writes and produces his own tracks as well as tracks for other artists, and has recently signed with Fierce Panda records. Music is an important part of Shawcroft's life, as he explains: "When I was 13, I was diagnosed with type one Diabetes; it turned by life upside down so I depended more on producing my own music to control the way I felt. Creating music from nothing was my escape, and now it's my passion." Shawcroft has been busy writing new material and will be releasing a four-track EP towards the end of the year [...]
Watch yourself, or you might find yourself acting outside of your control with this new track "Hypnosis" from Reno-based dubstep artist SubDocta. Suggestive vocal samples between heavy wobbles and precise and hard-hitting sub bass (as you'd expect from the name) make for an eerie and exciting track [...]
Iranian-born, Swedish-based electronic artist Ayin has teamed up with French vocalist Kinnie Lane for their new banger single "Your Body". The track dials it up to eleven with its infectious energy and wonderful pop vocals [...]
Following a string of popular singles including "Best Friends" and "Blood // Water", Toronto based grungy alt rock'n'roll cross electronic artist Grandson has last week released his debut EP "A Modern Tragedy, Vol. 1". His songs are often politically and emotionally charged, dealing with issues from the Parkland school shooting to drug overdose, and are written as a form of catharsis - to talk about these issues and let out the anger and frustration. "Despicable" marks Grandson's first track with a more prominent electronic drop whilst the rest of the track retains his signature alt rock sound using guitars and distorted vocals. The sound is reminiscent of Twenty One Pilot's Heathens but with a grungier edge. Grandson also recently released "Running From My Shadow" in collaboration with Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park [...]
The title track from Virginia Beach based singer/songwriter Matt Maeson's new EP "The Hearse" paints a raw picture of the struggles of dealing with inner demons and past mistakes. Maeson grew up in a religious family and played in his family's band at ministry concerts at prisons and biker rallies, including singing about salvation in front of strippers and Hells Angels at Sturgis, one of the biggest motorcycle rallies in the world. Unfortunately he eventually got involved in drugs and wound up in jail himself. He continued to write music amidst it all and when he got out, he took up a construction job and began the difficult task of rebuilding his life. Armed with a guitar and a notebook, he also went back to performing at prisons along with traditional music venues [...]
Brandon and Andy of Seattle based duo Solstis have remixed Luna Shadows' song Youth giving it a great driving rock sound while retaining an electronic touch. They've also added a guitar solo which is a neat addition that wraps up the track really well. The remix signals a shift in sound for the duo, as they explain: "After releasing our debut album 'Nowhere' we have been exploring new sounds and the use of more live instruments. Indie rock and Dream Pop have had a huge influence on us over the last year and when Luna Shadows hit us up to remix her song, we saw it as a perfect opportunity to showcase the new direction we found. This song is meant to be played in a live format and many of the instruments you hear were recorded by us. It is also the first time we included a guitar solo in a song which is something we have always wanted to do. We finally feel like we found a direction unique to us and we can't wait to explore this sound much further. Thanks for listening."
Norweigan duo Lemaitre have released a cool new single called "Rocket Girl" with vocals from Australian pop singer Betty Who. The intro kicks off with an EQ filter as if the song is playing from a small radio around a corner and then the electro pop beat really kicks in. Betty's vocals soar over the crunchy funky synths with confidence and energy that makes you feel like she really is taking off into space. There's even a David Bowie Space Oddity reference in the lyrics: "Oh Major Tom, you ain't so tough. Watch me fly across the universe. It's T minus one. You can call me rocket girl!" [...]
German duo BUNT. have released a catchy new pop single with BEGINNERS called "For You My Love". Their sound combines energetic folk with dance music, reminiscent of Mumford & Sons and Avicii's Hey Brother. Since bursting onto the scene in 2014 with their hit "Journey", the duo have consistently been putting out great singles and also remixing other artists including Vance Joy, The Neighbourhood, OneRepublic and Avicii.
This week we have a special edition of our Five for Friday featuring tracks with magical soundscapes to sweep you away. As Dumbledore said, wiping his eyes, "Ah, music, a magic beyond all we do here!"
In February, Minnesotan producer Artisan released their track "Evergreen" and it has since become one of their most popular tracks on SoundCloud, and we can see why. It follows in their style of crafting beautifully intricate soundscapes, but with a more orchestral focus. It sounds so familiar and nostalgic, yet equally a fresh creation. With its lush, sweeping cinematic instrumentation and strong lead melody, it is truly enchanting [...]
British DJ and music producer Duke Dumont has released a new disco pop single called "Inhale" with fantastic vocals from rapper Ebenezer. The track talks about love like a drug: "Baby, I'mma need another hit / 'Cause I want your love / Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale". Ebenezer has previously worked with the likes of Ty Dolla $ign and Jeremih and recently released his debut album "Bad Romantic" before joining Duke Dumont on Inhale. Last year saw Duke Dumont release grooving single "Real Life" with Gorgon City and Naations, along with remixing "The Man" by the Killers and collaborating with Katy Perry, producing and co-writing on her song "Swish Swish". After performing at Groovin' the Moo here in Western Australia tomorrow, he'll be heading out to the U.S. for a number of dates through to September with shows also in Canada, Belgium, Ibiza and a spot at his homeland festival of Creamfields [...]
