So Below - Visions
RIYL: Broods, Banks, The Naked and Famous
So Below drops this stellar new single Visions to enchant us. With a much lower profile than her New Zealand contemporaries, we predict this kind of quality will see that change soon. Madeline North better known as So Below creates an alluring atmosphere with her ethereal vocals over the top of superb production. She has an incredible grasp of story-telling and this track is yet another display of that art. Make sure you check it out together with the rest of So Below's new EP II which is out now.
Canshaker Pi - Put A Record Out
RIYL: Iceage, Arctic Monkeys, Inheaven
So you're hanging out for the sound of real guitars – well we've got just the cure. "Put a Record Out" is your hell yeah, stick it to the man track for the week. With attitude to match a driving, dark, searing rhythm, Canshaker Pi just blitzes the senses with this in your face message. The lyrics reveal a distrust of the state of the music industry. Just as well there's the like of Excelsior Records to fight for the indie bands like this. Canshaker Pi will be releasing their new album Naughty Naughty Violence on May 4th.
Austen - Storm
RIYL: Banks, Halsey, Woodes
We are excited about this stunning new single "Storm" from Brisbane based songstress Austen. It's a powerful track with an emotional vulnerability expressed through her words, as Austen explains "The lyrics just follow my train of thinking and this process of falling for someone and realising how much that person affects you, and I love the metaphor of the song because for me a storm in the distance is thrilling and exciting if you don't think you're going to be hurt by it."
With meticulous production work by James Angus, it's a perfect match for the powerful vocals of Austen as she builds an amazing mood throughout the song.
Blessed - Superfly
RIYL - Khalid, Kid Cudi
Well it just makes us smile, this latest release "Superfly" from Ghanian born Sydney based rocker Blessed is as catchy as hell. It's got an attitude with a smirk – Blessed has ticked all the boxes with this punk infused alt-rock track. As he explains "it's a punk song about being depressed and broke but the flyest in every room. Produced by myself and myboyRoach while sneaking in and out of studios around LA".
Jaira Burns - Okokok
RIYL - AlunaGeorge, Bülow
Pittsburgh based electro-pop artist Jaira Burns has just released this upbeat, break-up banger "Okokok". Never one to be subtle, Jaira's hip-hop influenced vocals are as punchy as ever with an upbeat message to get up, live your life and kick that ex to the curb. Off the back of her other three killer releases Ugly, Slow Burn and High Rollin we see big things for Jaira, just get out of her way...
