Five for Friday: 25th May 2018

Lemaitre - Rocket Girl feat. Betty Who
Norweigan duo Lemaitre have released a cool new single called "Rocket Girl" with vocals from Australian pop singer Betty Who. The intro kicks off with an EQ filter as if the song is playing from a small radio around a corner and then the electro pop beat really kicks in. Betty's vocals soar over the crunchy funky synths with confidence and energy that makes you feel like she really is taking off into space. There's even a David Bowie Space Oddity reference in the lyrics: "Oh Major Tom, you ain't so tough. Watch me fly across the universe. It's T minus one. You can call me rocket girl!"

Clara Mae - I Forgot (MOTi Remx)
Amsterdam based DJ and producer MOTi has remixed Swedish artist Clara Mae's single "I Forgot" giving it an edgier dance sound and a banging future house drop. Clara's lyrics talk about seeing your ex and momentarily falling in love with them again - before remembering why you broke up with them in the first place. Clara kicked off her music career co-writing with David Guetta and Tiësto after studying jazz vocals and piano for three years. MOTi has also worked with Tiësto - recently releasing collaborative track "Break the House Down" with him - among other major artists. He also has a new remix releasing today of Seeb and Dagny's "Drink About".

Violet Days - Just a Little
Swedish duo Violet Days, comprised of singer/songwriter Lina Hansson and songwriter/producer Kris Eriksson, have just released their latest single "Just a Little". Light electronic production on the track gives Lina's irresistible and edgy vocals the center stage. She said of the track: "Wrote this one with Kris Eriksson & Cassandra Casso Ströberg and during the session we shared our stories and were pretty much crying and laughing the whole time while doing it. So much feelings. Hope you all like it!" The track will feature on their upcoming EP "Made in my Head", set for release this summer.

LUUDE - Sink or Swim feat. Example & Georgi Kay
Perth based producer LUUDE has teamed up with English MC/vocalist Example (a.k.a. Elliot Gleave, or E.G.) and L.A. based artist Georgi Kay for their latest single "Sink or Swim". The track took two years to put together from start to finish, but has definitely been worth the wait. Example's fantastic deep vocals start the track off over filtered overdriven synths before Georgi Kay's vocals take over to build up to the drop. The track incorporates banjo in the drop which works surprisingly well and is a cool way to set it apart from other tracks.

Moncrieff - Serial Killer
In collaboration with L.A. based producer JUDGE, London based artist Moncrieff has released his second single "Serial Killer" (released on Friday 13th last month no less). His vocals are rich and soulful, perfectly matching the electronic R&B production. He said of the track: "I wrote Serial Killer a few months after coming out of what was a pretty intense relationship; to put it lightly. It's nuts how you never seem to notice how your perspective changes when you're in deep with someone. You lose the ability to be objective as infatuation paints over traits in a person that would otherwise serve as warning signs".
