Let your inner werewolf run wild at midnight to New York electronic artist and singer JES' new single "We Belong To The Night"! Her gorgeous vocals dance softly over reversed guitar and airy production working up to a powerful drop on this nocturnal anthem. She's previously collaborated with ATB, among other well known producers like Armin Van Buuren and Above and Beyond, and you can almost hear a little ATB influence coming through on the track. Watch the cool new video clip for it below, released just before Halloween. If I saw someone dressed like this at night, I'd jump!
You may have heard her music on shows like Lucifer, Pretty Little Liars and Riverdale. We're talking about pop songstress Valerie Broussard who has a killer new single out. Opening with sparse electric guitar, her lyrics quickly illustrate the scene: "Standing out on the highway with my thumb out, everybody's passing but you slow down, and my heart is telling me to turn round..." The track features a catchy chorus melody over smooth production with a sound that would do well in a James Bond intro. She clearly has a theatrical flair as showcased in the song's video clip and in releases like her powerful cinematic single "Awaken", written for League of Legends. Keep an ear out for Valerie Broussard, she's on the rise!
Hope you all had a great Halloween! If you're still in the mood for some spooky tunes and dig the heavier stuff, then check out dubstep DJ/producer Crankdat's new two-track single "Fearworld"! The title is a play on his debut EP "Gearworld", released in April. The theatrical opening track "Horror Hour" progressively stacks hair-raising elements building to its powerful dubstep drops. It opens with a ticking clock and spooky metallic chiming, then introduces a dramatic choir, arp and organ. Beyond producing and DJing, Crankdat also designs his own artwork and animates his live show visuals. He has a number of shows lined up through till Christmas and then will be joining NGHTMRE on tour in February.
San Francisco-based DJ/producer HIGHSOCIETY has teamed up with vocalist Amy Kirkpatrick for their mesmerizing new single "Fake". The track features echoing synths in the verses and turns up the heat in the dancey chorus, with Kirkpatricks' vocals lending the track a dark, ethereal quality. Kirkpatrick wrote on Instagram: "I wanted to write a track about how we crave false limited connections sometimes, for a quick fix that we know won't last, but take a dose of it anyways. It's about conscious manipulation against our instincts (by ourselves or others), to have something momentary instead of diving deeper. Wanting the fake flowers in the now, instead of waiting in patience for the real ones to grow roots and bloom. Because doesn't that quick fake fix just feel damn good sometimes.. until it doesn't."
If you want to hear more, check out HIGHSOCIETY's new two-track single Datamosh and his potent recent single New Drug. He will also be releasing a heavier sounding EP soon called Turbo Shandy.
Rising Indonesian artist Rich Brian recently released his sophomore album "The Sailor". On the album he talks about exploration from his perspective of growing up in Jakarta to moving to the U.S. alone at 17, to success and touring and to inspiring others to "explore" too. On the triumphant brass and drums track "Kids" he shows his passion and vision and expresses gratitude for his opportunities, including signing with label 88rising. He even recently got to play the song when he met Indonesia's president, Joko Widodo. Brian describes it as: "a victory song for kids of both sides of the world" with empowering lines like: "Might steal the mic at the GRAMMYs just to say we won / That everyone can make it, don't matter where you from." Genius recently did a great feature on him and label 88rising which you can watch below.
DJ/producer Elderbook and four-piece Rudimental have teamed up for their chilled out electro pop single "Something About You". The track features tender vocals over minimal, dancey production. The video clip is a powerful part of the song, spotlighting men's mental health and doing away with harmful norms about masculinity. It reassures men that they aren't alone and that they can be both strong and vulnerable. Rudimental posted on social media asking people to share clips of themselves doing the dance from the video clip with the hashtag #TogetherIsStronger, "to show that we're stronger together."
French-American artist Ariane has put out an alluring, dark-tinged electro pop single called "Sweatshirt". The production incorporates elements of synthwave and industrial sound design while remaining completely slick pop. Ariane's entrancing vocals are equally honed with her pointed lyrics and catchy melodies. She said of the song's inspiration: "This song is about a toxic relationship; the kind where you know you should let go but you still hold onto the fantasies and the objects left behind. I think most of us have been in that uncomfortable place at least once in our lives."
The track is her fourth release in the lead up to her upcoming debut album "Original Copy". Follow her Instagram for upcoming shows, news and more.
Paris-based trap producer LBLVNC (pronounced "leblanc") has put out a new single called "Lift Me Up", appropriately released on label Lost In Bangers. In collaboration with fellow producers Dawn & Prax and Majes, the track opens with moody pop verses before unleashing a glittering trap drop. The track has an emotional yet uplifting sound; an escape when the world feels like it's coming down on top of you. LBLVNC explores this further in his debut music video which is set to drop next week.
English artist Will Callan makes quite an impression with his catchy electro pop debut "Losing Our Minds". Callan's fantastic vocals lead the track confidently through the verses to a falsetto bridge before dropping into a banging trap-style chorus. Callan wrote of the song's theme: "When I first started writing 'Losing Our Minds', I felt the song was about good times and having fun. But after connecting more with the lyrics, I really feel like the song is about letting yourself go and falling in love with the positive things in life, instead of focusing on the negatives. And what better way to do that, than with the one you love."
In addition to singing, Callan also plays guitar and piano and writes and produces. Check out his Instagram for some behind the scenes content and great cover songs he sings from time to time. Losing Our Minds is the first track to be released from his upcoming EP.
